It is simply called "aerial yoga". I have tried it, it is super fun, but be sure to wear long sleeves and leggings, because the silks can be really tough on the body.

I am looking to open a fitness studio on Long Island in the Bellmore/Wantagh area and want to get a class like this started where do I get information on equipment which looks like it can be expense to install? and instructors qualified to teach this format. We are a non profit fitness/wellness organization newly formed Be Fabulous Foundation, Inc.

There is decompression of the spine and joints and inversions are made more easily accesible to a wider population, being safer and less risk of compression to the neck or not strong enough in the shoulders.

I agree, anti gravity Yoga is not a good definition. We are working with gravity always. this allows us to to work with gravity in new ways and therefore is sometimes called inversion yoga or aerial yoga. There are some moves which are like floating but do not be deceived, this is one hell of a workout!!! It gets to places I have never reached with yoga or Pilates.

Great question. This new style of yoga that is emerging has been dubbed as 'Antigravity' yoga. While you won't be floating around the room like you are in 0G, you do have a feeling of weightlessness by comparison to regular yoga. For example, when performing a backbend, the silks will take all of the weight instead of your arms and legs bearing it all. This allows for deep stretching without any pressure or stress on your body and is a very relaxing experience.

So curious about what you mean by anti-gravity. Clearly you are on Earth, gravity is involved in everything you do, even if you're suspended in fabric.

I saw an article in a magazine recently about this kind of yoga. This video makes it look interesting and very relaxing, but I like my yoga to be a more of a workout than it seems like this would be.
