Nice comment. I have a couple of mine with discoloring and they are still at the same output. It must just be the way there manufactured. I haven't heard of any high dollar panels doing that. Jeff

[2012-05-10 01:59:15] mik22pik - Good point Jeff, ...Good point Jeff, but with 35 years under your belt, you know better, Yes? Some people expect 110% quality and will not fix simple problems. They're the ones that require a little tact when dealing with their brain fart problems. Your business is strong, just replace and forget, better to have good sales then deal with all the mayham from a poor customer. It's the 1% knotheads you need to forget about, and there's always two side to a story.. Well done Jeff, all the best!
[2012-05-09 22:13:55] jeffmolly1 - I have been in ...I have been in business for 35 years now. Today, when a customer has a problem with a company they make a Youtube video, Facebook, forums and blogs thrashing the company and telling the WORLD that your a crook. Time for companies to fight back with videos of there own , telling the rest of the story!!! Jeff
[2012-05-09 15:34:13] mik22pik - WOW !!!! Your ...WOW !!!! Your business practice needs work, never show a customer is wrong publicly, never! Better to replace the panel, keep them happy and you stand by your product quality. You'll have more business. You can sell the panel on Ebay or in your store at cost..
[2012-04-17 04:23:15] aj22977 - that brownish tan ...that brownish tan stained look could be from resin from sodering or tree sap try washing it off

[2012-04-01 08:26:03] nabmum - That's flux! I work ...That's flux! I work in the solar industry and make panels and that's manual soldering by maybe a trainee haha :-) Jeff, you should get ur supplier to give u a more better looking panel... altho that "ugly" panel won't be losing power just due to that. If it loses power, it must be due to something else.

[2012-03-06 17:08:50] KyleCarrington - @1971superlead you ...@1971superlead you are probably entirely correct. High quality solar panels are not put together with flux joints, this is a clear indication of a plant that does either manual soldering, or has older automated tabbing. Oxidation, is oxidation. The problem wouldn't have worsened if it wasn't getting worse. CLEARLY a warranty claim. Good grief Jeff.
[2012-03-06 17:04:07] KyleCarrington - ... cont ... ...... cont ... whether your customer is right or wrong. The panel is clearly wrong. And the customer is always right, have you not heard? You may know something about solar, but you clearly know nothing about business. I'm proud that I do not treat my customers like this, this is an example of a know-it-all giving lousy customer service. Shame on you Missouri.
[2012-03-06 17:02:13] KyleCarrington - So, you have a ...So, you have a customer who bought a panel that is clearly exhibiting problems, if not corrosion, then quite possibly oxidation at the solder leads (flux problem), which, over time, could indeed POSSIBLY form corrosion, plus the cable is busted in the back, and you expect him to pull it apart and do your fix? so then you humiliate him in rebuttle (granted he could have been more polite, you're correct there...). Point is, I would have gladly refunded him and certainly not made HIM THE FOOL...
[2012-02-26 19:06:05] jeffmolly1 - Well that depends. ...Well that depends. You could probably run your tv and lights on it through a couple of batteries. Jeff
[2012-02-26 01:35:00] bobinmissouri - ty for doing this i ...ty for doing this i am learning something from theses and i don't care if it had stains on it just as long as it puts out a pannel this size could i run my pc tv radio lights on it and how many watts or pannel would i need? again thank you Jeff

[2012-02-14 13:48:50] jeffmolly1 - Thanks. Jeff Thanks. Jeff
[2012-02-03 20:14:36] 1971SuperLead - In aerospace we ...In aerospace we are not allowed to use flux when soldering. It's been outlawed for 20 years at least. So you probably don't really need to use flux to make your solar panels. Try soldering without flux. Use a lower temperature solder or a higher temp iron if you need to. Flux contaminates the solder joints. That's why they outlawed it.
[2012-01-28 16:54:11] 99vortex - Nice vid Jeff. I ...Nice vid Jeff. I don't see how a cable gets pulled loose from the panel. I would suggest maybe changing the cable connections on panels to have some type of stress relief so this kind of thing could not happen. The cable connection in the vid looks cut, or broken by moving the wire back and forth. To straight of an edge. Maybe this was done by the previous owner to help him with his claim that the panel was rusted. Rust color looks like solder oxidation. Awesome product.
[2012-01-24 15:01:03] jeffmolly1 - Thanks. Jeff Thanks. Jeff

[2011-11-02 08:13:45] Alumicone - just goes to show ...just goes to show how different panels are. I have an 85 W (from sunelec) that produces 5 Amps under proper alignment in the South West Texas summers. If the 100W is producing less than my 85, perhaps the cells were factory rejects?
[2011-10-02 19:45:19] jeffmolly1 - Thank you Al. I ...Thank you Al. I sold the panel to BillyTheKid2010 and he's using it. Jeff
[2011-09-21 08:06:42] TheSolaraficionado - Preliminarily the ...Preliminarily the yellowing looks like an alcohol related flux contamination issue, monitor it as EVA degrades with such exposure over time. Instruct the manufacturer the serial number so that the employee might be trained. Regarding the jbox, rewiring can cause shock to a customer who is not familiar with DC electricity. Generally when encountering this type of issue it is better to get a NABCEP/electrician/field tech to fix the issue to reduce potential liability...
[2011-09-15 01:53:38] 762gunr - It's flux/rosin ...It's flux/rosin used when it was soldered.
[2011-09-02 12:58:49] tritowns - its flux... and ...its flux... and that's all...
[2011-08-28 19:39:47] troybrownrigg - It looks like ...It looks like figure prints, which oxidized the metal slightly. Thanks for showing in detail how to check out a solar panel.I been using your new wind solar controll charger been working perfect, except for the windmill. Maybe if you generate some wind of more then 5 mph here in Arizona on a regular basis my widmill could generate some real power. I've got 32 each 40 watt UL solar panels never had a problem with any of them except when there's no sun out!
[2011-08-28 13:55:50] rusty2507 - I've heard that ...I've heard that this discoloring could also be a result of certain types of silicon reacting with certain flux's used. Either way, none of those materials cause rust.
[2011-08-13 16:27:37] jeffmolly1 - Thank you. This ...Thank you. This video was'nt about attacking a customer that wanted to return something it was meant to be more of an eye opener on behalf of legitamate business's that have to put up with this stuff on a daily basis. Youtube has given people to much power, good and bad. I would hope that the next customer that wants to make a bogus complaint and return takes it up with the company first, not Youtube. I think i'am the first to do a video like this and it will be the last. Jeff
[2011-08-13 15:26:44] UlfrIronwood - This whole bad- ...This whole bad-mouthing vs video rebuttal only helps your business. That's because it highlights that there are people trying to sabotage your reputation. Highlighting this makes people place the correct amount of suspicion on negative reviews. Keep up your videos and it will all work out in the end.
[2011-08-12 12:59:08] mccunecp - thats funny Jeff me ...thats funny Jeff me if I hook something up even if I just bought it even from a store and it not working that is about the first thing I do is pull a cover off or what ever and see if a wire came loos or is somethign is undone and as I can tell if the dummy would have at least checked his wiring he would have found this with out any work at all and that stuff is just flux I have soldered panels before and its just flux and thats all. good video.

[2011-08-10 03:01:05] jmchapo21 - I make my own solar ...I make my own solar panels here in MN and the brownish discoloration is overheated flux/rosin from soldering the cells together. NOT RUST - Good job Jeff in the explaination of this.
