[2012-05-16 23:11:02] subsonictonic - What would be a ...What would be a good language to develop a robot control interface, with camera feeds and the ability to send data through a serial port or USB port? Also a control system is needed - joysticks and custom USB controller. I would like very much if I could customise the heck out of the GUI, and place graphics and controllable animations and custom sliders - similar to what Flash allows. I would do it in Flash, but it's a little unstable, especially with video and not sure if it can talk to serial
[2012-05-07 16:03:37] xcodexpert - totally different. ...totally different. javascript is mostly for web development and java can use web and desktop development.
[2012-04-26 19:27:25] durgaswaroop - any difference b/w ...any difference b/w java & java script?
[2012-04-24 02:39:49] bondservant4Him - does she get paid ...does she get paid well?
[2012-04-15 22:34:07] joemplascencia - VB.Net-> C++-> ...VB.Net-> C++-> Java-> What next?
[2012-04-04 21:54:03] GotRedsting - That title was ...That title was misleading. Which programming language is the best, and which is the most useful are COMPLETELY different. I mean, Java is waay more useful than Assembly but Assembly is "better".
[2012-03-10 01:05:55] jeffer1984 - my question would ...my question would be what programming language is best to learn if you're new at it...and why :)
[2012-02-17 05:56:36] kmpars - C FTWC FTW
[2012-02-11 22:53:45] AlderDragon - @ThePiggy351 I've ...@ThePiggy351 I've been programming off and on with C#, C++, C, Java and Python for about 3 years now. Can I ask what you mean when you say Java isn't powerful? On the surface (from my experience) they all feel the same. By not powerful you mean it doesn't execute as fast? Is there any way for me to see some numbers on this? Such as compilation, execution time or whatever.
[2012-01-07 12:47:00] KnightChatX - My suggestion is ...My suggestion is don't be stuck by just 1 language alone, being flexible helps tackle problems faced in a specific language when you need a quick solution but don't have all the information at hand right away you need or the language might not be fully suited for it's intended project usage and you need another language such as Java which is more in tune with browser based programming.
[2012-01-07 12:38:55] KnightChatX - SQL and XML are ...SQL and XML are just plain annoying when you know how to make your own database systems easily with built in reusable code and array management such as with hashtables and basic Memory and File Stream IO and basic network programming, managing basic or networked data storage is nothing. But it's either about choice what you are comfortable with or what the client specifically requires things to be done in or what it's required for, if browser based will probably include Java.
[2012-01-07 12:26:11] KnightChatX - I programmed in ...I programmed in over 48 languages and from experience over 14 years now Visual Basic is what I'm most comfortable with I can make pretty much everything I need be it a multi-media or gaming application, a tool or server based service, an editor, or a sophisticated security or automated network. You can do bits and pieces of that in various languages, or most if not all of it but requiring more lines of code in a C language or lower level Assembly language. I tend to ignore some standards sql.
[2012-01-07 12:21:01] KnightChatX - Depend what you're ...Depend what you're gonna be developing and the device it's gonna run on, platform it's developed for, the OS it will be supporting unless you're building your own OS and hardware drivers, what you are developing is supposed to do, what you are comfortable with, as well as the purpose or reason you are doing the work (Such as being required or not required to be a specific application done in a desired by client specific language.). For instance, everything I do is mostly in Visual Basic.
[2012-01-06 06:41:21] arraymac227 - Given APL, I've ...Given APL, I've never had to learn C. APL is {(⍵⍳⍵)=⍳⍬⍴⍴⍵}ly qualified to solve way more problems than other languages, and much quicker. Case in point: Knuth's Sorting & Searching: 2 volumes; APL ⍳⍋ 2 symbols....
[2011-12-30 15:12:44] michaeljburling - I wouldn't go to ...I wouldn't go to Chris Pirillo for advice on anything beyond, "How do I print?"
[2011-12-27 19:35:30] MrRobotoToo - Logo...bitches!Logo...bitches!
[2011-12-17 13:22:31] FlameSwordWielder - Thumbs up if you ...Thumbs up if you knew the obvious answer already.
[2011-12-13 11:37:31] ICCraider - C++ if you're ...C++ if you're serious about programming.and if u wanna be a casual programmer than JAVA is the best choice.
[2011-12-12 01:03:54] ComputerTech456 - Wow Cobol was like ...Wow Cobol was like the second programming language ever created.
[2011-12-02 17:38:52] thekilon - After learning the ...After learning the most popular languages out there. My pick is Squeak . A modern version of Smalltalk one of the oldest programming language and till this day the best Object Orientated language out there. Great libraries, powerful flexible language that can be shaped to anything the programmer needs (everything is an editable object) , can easily call any C library and an IDE that is light years ahead. And that is only a small sample of what Squeak really is. Check it out.
[2011-11-27 18:53:01] S1lentStr1ke - Well, If you'd want ...Well, If you'd want to make a game you might want to use C++, or Java, yes... But, BF2 is made by using Python. Nuff said.
[2011-11-27 03:19:56] Radnyxerr - Python is tooo ...Python is tooo simple... For larger important purposes, somewhere around the lines of Java / C# / C++ is where you wan't to start heading.
[2011-11-08 18:09:24] S1lentStr1ke - Python. Clean and ...Python. Clean and simple.
[2011-11-06 22:10:54] armelix73 - A pretty good/ ...A pretty good/accurate answer, even though there are more specific and general languages out there :) You´ll achieve more with C/C++ and Java today than, say, Fortran or Cobol, but that´s another story. . .You can still make more money learning Cobol/Fortran/Lisp, if you´re lucky getting the job :) So who´s to say!?
[2011-10-19 18:32:53] spinosmen - yeah He is,, but if ...yeah He is,, but if there is no nerd there is no computer, and that means No FB, NO youtube, NO Internet!
[2011-10-16 19:18:06] jcash365 - And in line 6, I'm ...And in line 6, I'm referring to WINDOWS OS's when I say native GUI(Win32API). If I wanted greater, faster, and more versatile results for say Mac, I'd use Obj-C in conjunction with CocoaAPI. I felt that I needed to further clarify myself so as not to draw any trolls or H8ters. (I sense they may still come.)
[2011-10-16 19:12:43] jcash365 - He gave the only ...He gave the only smart answer. The answer is subjective. the language is merely the tool. The use of any tool is only as "best" as the job its designed to do. Example: I would program/script using javascript for webdesign. I would use c++ for a desktop application that required extensive use of the native API for GUI pruposes. I would use java if I needed to design an app for ANDROID for cross platform compatibility/native GUI use. I would not use fortran for such a task. SEE?
[2011-10-16 18:52:50] jcash365 - Chris is a geek. ...Chris is a geek. All Computer Geeks have some general knowledge of some type of programming language even if they don't know the exact syntax or principles of any 1 language with enough detail to actually do any practical "programming" in that language. It's like how I know that basic is a programming language for microsoft, but I couldn't even create 1 semi-functional console program in it. C++ or C yeah, but Basic no. I never bothered to learn it.
[2011-10-12 19:21:18] sergio1020881 - First what is your ...First what is your experience with programming languages or your opinion is only based on what you read or heard ? C# C++ C, java. or your answer should be that depends, or maybe this and that, or i dont know so many out there it gives me vomites.
[2011-10-08 21:03:39] ffxme - Fortran is very ...Fortran is very fast for mathematical applications, most physical or chemical codes are written in fortran for this reason.
[2011-10-01 13:41:40] RafalMarekChmiel - I didn't know that ...I didn't know that Chris knows anything about programming.
[2011-09-19 00:38:18] bigcasey1995 - He didn't really ...He didn't really answer the question, He gave us information, The answer would of been like c++, Java, php, c, and Perl. But nooo he has to make EVERYTHING more complicated!
[2011-09-11 01:49:00] GrimrCamban - VB.NET 2010 FTW!VB.NET 2010 FTW!
