If a toy is left on while unused, rechargeables are better. @corpusc is right, the video was short - they publish a magazine too.

At Save a lot we get a 20 pack for only $5

@corpusc Well...the math isn't that hard, to have equivalent shot value it would have to be 1.78 for the walgreens batteries, lower than that if you want more shot per cent. If you can find the batteries for lower than that then they're a better value. Keep in mind Consumer reports often puts these videos out as teasers because they give access to the full results to people that pay for their subscription, usually they don't even give you this much in these videos.

I guess I'm just lazy, I'd rather recharge what I have than go out and buy more batteries. The rechargables that I buy are about the same price as the non-rechargeables.

I still think that rechargeable batteries are most cost effective, rather than buying new batteries all the time.

Because NiMh lose about 5-10% of their charge per week just sitting there. That makes them unsuitable for infrequently used or low power devices, like emergency flashlights or remote controls. They're good for high-power devices though, like walkie talkies.

Come on, CR...Tell us the shots per dollar for each brand.

way too short and uninformative. how much did the walgreens batteries cost? i know they must have been cheap. if they cost only 1/8 then they could be a better value, just have to change batteries more often

yes you do. Rechargeable batteries only last 1 year. Read the packaging on them.

[2011-12-28 22:50:42] meuberepic - dont get ...

dont get rechargeable high density lithium batteries. i have a couple tac flashlights that use cr123a batts. if the batt is less than 1400 MaH the light will explode, i have seen it happen. secondary nickel cadimine or hydroxide batts don't hold there charge for as long, but lithiums are dangerous. and stay the hell away from lithium-polymer cells.

Not true after 500-1000 cycle you must buy new ones.

Why not get rechargeable batteries for all AAA and AAs? You never have to buy new batteries.

I just get my batteries in bulk, so I don't have to keep going back to the store

I know for hearing aid batteries (thanks Iraq for jacking up my hearing), I've found that the Walgreen's Brand will last me up to two days longer than any of the big brands like Energizer, and they're cheaper. I thought it strange.

I think Energizer is the best in AAA and AA batteries.
