It depends on what's wrong - as it's external, the caddy or its power supply could be faulty and swapping the drive to a new caddy could work. If it's the electronics, then buying an identical second hand model and swapping the board could work, but if it's mechanical then you will have to either scrap the drive, or send it off to a recovery expert - running the drive any longer yourself will only lessen the chances of getting any data back off of it.

just back your data up i have the same data on 2 PCs and a external hard drive when one fails copy the data to the replacement. done and dusted never rely on one hard drive lasting forever! i back my stuff up every month to all 3 of my devices so no worrying about new stuff being lost. ull never need a place like this taking your money for simple recovery's again

This shouldn't be necessary, in 6 months i have now had 5 (FIVE) brand new 1.5 TB drives that died. technology should go onwards but i seems to get stop here. I have very old drives with the funny capacity of 264 MB they have been in my shed for years cold/heat/moisture and those work even today ! whats up with the 1.5TB drives? (1 TB works fine) had 3 seagates and now 2 WD's all under warranty, but its a HUGE inconvenient thing!
