I think you already solved your problem but in case you didn't: the chances are high provided that you only formatted not "zeroed" your disc. You can use a number of software to recover you data but these are very good, they don't waste your disc and they are free, but they require you to think what you are doing: PC Inspector File Recovery (more user friendly, effectiveness - medium), DMDE (free for non commercial use, less user friendly, effectiveness - high)
