[2012-04-16 13:06:04] FreeCompConsultant - SATA, nor USB ...SATA, nor USB require any "slave" setting. If it doesn't show up, there are troubleshooting tips at Vantec's website. In addition, try on another PC. It could be that the hard drive is completely gone (subject to expensive data recovery service) but let's hope not.
[2012-04-16 07:52:29] gosuman1 - hello, my SATA ...hello, my SATA laptop hard drive wont show up, i cant actually make it into a slave, not that i can see and it isnt showing up on disk manager, i have my main hard drive portioned as C:/ and D:/ and all usb ports are working for other devices... my SATA laptop drive did ask for a boot disk to install all of a sudden, which is why i have tryed to file recover off it before reinstalling windows.

[2012-03-25 14:48:00] FreeCompConsultant - Vantec has on their ...Vantec has on their website some trouble shooting tips, but it can also be that the drive simply does not have a drive letter assigned. Open device manager and see if the drive shows up there.

You do NOT need the password for your old hard drive unless at BIOS level (boot up) or you encrypted it. The Windows password is NOT needed because you can TAKE OWNERSHIP of the drive and all contents, then give yourself permission.

[2012-02-04 16:54:42] FreeCompConsultant - Lots of ways. First ...Lots of ways. First you can try booting to safe mode. There you can uninstall iTunes or otherwise trouble shoot. Second you can use a Vantec USB adapter (click the link in the description of the video). Third, you can repair XP; but if you are not familiar with the repair process you COULD end up accidentally reformatting the drive so I would not use that method first.

[2012-01-30 15:18:54] FreeCompConsultant - If you click the ...If you click the link in the description of this video it takes you to the Vantec adapter which will work on most any desktop hard drive, IDE or SATA. If your other PC also has SATA hard drives, they should since they are both new enough, then you can plug the drive into the other PC. You may need a SATA cable, though, some PC's come with extra, some don't.

But i have a lot of stuff i want to recover from hard drive before i get it fixed. How do i know what adapter i need.? Is there any other way of recovering this stuff. I have an older lap top, i think its 2007, someone told me to just put the hard drive from my 2010 lap top in my 2007 one and copy to a USB stick. Is this possible.? I havnt tried it yet.

[2012-01-24 16:17:31] tricky74000 - I'm trying to use ...I'm trying to use this method to access data from my desktop SATA 3.5" HDD but the drives are not accessible, possibly because the Drive Letters are not allocated. It was a partitioned C & D drive. Both letters already exist on my laptop. The partitioned drive comes up as Disc 2 in Computer Manager. Right-clicking on only gives me a "help" option on the un-named C-drive and a delete option for the data partition (D-drive) where most of our files are saved.

My computer reads other drives from it but it wont read the drive im trying to recover the data from. The drive wont boot in any other computer and freezes on starting windows. When I plugged the drive into my computer via external hardrive device it asked me to format the drive. Then an error message popped up and said "Cyclic redundancy check data erro" Will I still be able to recover my data from that drive?

Since then I've wondered about the Molex power connection, whether it was necessary. Or could I have reversed the signal cable pin alignment?

This method (there is an easier way with my more current videos using the Vantec Adapter) is ideal when Windows will not boot or the hard drive has bad sectors. Data from non-damaged areas of the drive can be retrieved. Again, see my newer videos using the Vantec USB hard drive adapter. And, if it is a matter of a drive letter not being assigned I have another video for that: USB drive letter missing.
