I get a 1TB storage and my Dad got 1 with a cable with a USB 2 when my laptop can cope with USB 3. But my Dad says it is more exspensive and is not worth as there is much difference. Um, but it is really slow. It only does 6-7MB per second and I can't play games on it. ;(

USB 3.0 allows 5gbits; but most external hard drives can only output to max 3gbits (except SSD); most likely your internal drive can only output 20mbps. The only theoretically time you can output at maximum 5gbits is between 2 SSD drives via usb 3.0

I run a business where I'm currently backing up 8GB+ of data a day and it takes around 25 minutes on USB 2.0, that's 2 and a half hours a week based on a 6 day working week. USB 3.0 will reduce that to less than half as much. It might not matter if you're an average user but to data demons like me it means i can spend more time doing things i want and not working!
