Some people wear blinders; they zone everything out and only focus on what they're doing for the day. I'm not saying these videos are legitimate, but they are compelling. You can tell those objects were in the sky when filming occurred. In fact, the objects were nowhere near any objects to be hung by string, so how did he hoax the objects? They're not CGI either;I work with graphics.

Some of the footage presented in the documentary was filmed outside as shown in the film which does not fit into your hypothesis.
