Exactly, which is the reason why a passing siren makes the high pitched noise as it comes towards you and a low pitched now when it passes by. Listen out for it the next time u hear an ambulance, police car or fire engine come towards you, the faster they are traveling the more obvious it will sound
[2012-05-18 07:33:45] fsgangstafs - So on a moving ...So on a moving medium as it approches you the pitch becomes high hence short wavelength and high frequency and when it's moving away from you the pitch becomes low hence long wavelength and lower frequency.

[2012-03-01 16:44:26] paulie1982 - No problem, don't ...No problem, don't forget to check out my other vids showing how leds and engines work etc. Greetings from Ireland :)
[2012-03-01 16:43:31] paulie1982 - It would work in ...It would work in the same way. I could have drawn the waves in full 3d, as in a sphere of noise moving outwards, but then it would have been very hard to see what was going on. Check out my other vids showing how leds and engines work etc :)
[2012-03-01 16:03:17] pBBeN - very informative, ...very informative, thank you greetings from germany
[2012-02-20 23:54:32] xInvictusPrime - Wait I have a ...Wait I have a question. I know how the doppler effect works on a 2 dimensional scale, but how about a 3 dimensional one. For instance, how does the doppler effect work on the the siren going upward and downward. Thanks

[2011-06-02 21:17:57] kevinisek2009 - This effect could ...This effect could only be possible if the Earth were completely stationary, but it is likely not, so what are we using as the constant? What is the object moving relative to? The aether? The earth? The sun? The road? The observer?

[2009-03-12 10:36:18] paulie1982 - Yes, its only an ...Yes, its only an apparent change, the waves might give the impression that the source is emitting more/less waves than it actually is but its only because the source is moving.
