Its doubtful. It does produce electricity, but very little.

Could you hook this up to a device with a dead re-chargeable battery and charge the battery? Say I have a more complex calculator with a re-chargeable battery that is dead but I've lost the charger cord. Could I hook up (4 or 5) the lemons in series via the aux battery compartment's + and - terminals & re-charge the internal battery?

Yep, other citrus fruits work! Anything with an acid inside actually works. In fact, even potatoes work :) There is a weak acid in those as well!

Absolutely. My website, MathTutorDVD(dot)com, contains an extensive physics and chemistry series. I also have an engineering level series on circuit analysis and plan more engineering courses in the future. Thanks!

In general, its usually 1 or 2 courses in chemistry, depending on the university. Definitely do not need to take organic chemistry as an EE or ME major. Thanks!

Thanks Jason! My nephew will love this experiment. Reminds me of redox reactions back in general chemistry. I also have a question for you. How much knowledge in the chemistry subject is required in the field of electrical and mechanical engineering? I always wanted to ask that question because the engineers build the tools that are required for experiments. For example, we did an experiment on measuring H+ ions in a pH buffer solution with a digital pH meter.
