The issue is not IF we can make these things. It comes down to cost of production(as you have said). Over time the kinks are always fixed. And after operating for a long enough time, human intervention will be minimal.

It is my opinion that most low level jobs - i'm talking everything being paid under 40K in the current economy can be automated with robots. At this point.....if such a change is made - 60% of the jobs can be automated. Thus - people are free to do what they wish, and the concept of people NEEDING jobs would be a nonexistent concept.
