It's CPU constrained but not as much as USB.

Nobody ever uses RAID-0 with SSDs?

[2012-05-08 01:06:00] PacoBell - Sure, but how many ...

Sure, but how many USB OTG devices do you know of compared to the overwhelming majority of host/slave devices? Plus, this was meant to make PCI-E external. How many PCI-E cards do you need?

So, 7 months have passed and your "very soon" prediction has failed so far. Time to eat crow?

[2012-05-08 00:34:16] PacoBell - Thunderbolt isn't ...

Thunderbolt isn't CPU constrained like USB, though. It's basically a PCI-E breakout technology. Maybe you're thinking of USB?

Who cares how fast Thunderbolt is! Most HDDs don't go anywhere near the max. It's almost useless!

[2012-03-10 16:26:44] kalijasin - Yeah, its nice to ...

Yeah, its nice to have all that speed, but if you can't use it whats the point? An external hard drive, sataIII to usb III, will operate at nearly the same speeds. Sata III to thunderbolt however, wont. There will be a 14Gbit/s difference.

[2012-03-10 16:21:13] kalijasin - I do not really see ...

I do not really see the point of thunderbolt since there is nothing that can operate at those speeds. There are no true thunderbolt to thunderbolt devices. Like I said, even an external hard drive in a case that supports thunderbolt would still be sata II or III.

[2012-03-10 16:14:25] kalijasin - Thunderbolt is good ...

Thunderbolt is good for external hard drives. You need the high speeds for transferring large amounts of data. Right now though, external hard drives are all sata II or sata III. That means they are limited to 3 or 6 Gbit/s. Since thunderbolt is 20 Gbit/s thats a difference of 14Gbit/s you are not getting.

Well, my Dad would probably be more interested in this video than me, because he seems crazy about the latest and the greatest, and the most mainstream commercial you can get. To me it seems like a waste of time to even discuss this. I am fine with IEEE1394, I am not sure why I would need 5GB transfer rate, as I cannot really utilize such speed for any of my applications: video capture, editing, MIDI, etc. Also I'd rather learn how to use programs mpeg2enc and mencoder, than discuss USB 3

I think Intel will promote Thunderbolt, because USB is from intel too. So Intel will promote its new standard.

Chris, what monitors do you use for your workstation?

[2011-09-24 18:39:11] tipoomaster - I'm guessing the ...

I'm guessing the two will co-exist and be split mainly into consumer and professional use, just like USB and Firewire were. There's no doubt that TB is technologically superior, but consumers will likely pick what works with all their old devices and is readily available. When Intel supports this at a chipset level on all new systems, then we'll see TB take off.

[2011-09-10 03:54:29] 2003SCT - Universality should ...

Universality should be the driving factor...not speed. Especially if this is meant to replace connectivity for things such as digital cameras, ipod/mp3 players, printers, mice and keyboards etc. None of these devices need anywhere NEAR Thunderbolt speeds so it becomes a moot point...though it gives people a hard on to think in high numbers. Its a bit like getting excited about all cars coming with a 200 mph speedometer...useless except for a very very tiny number of applications.

I don't think that's going to happen, PC maker rather go with USB 3.0 over Thunderbolt.

you need to get a life and I'm not your friend, dumbass. move on idiot troll. you will never be in demand nor will you're constant need to get laid. do not reply. the conversation is over. ya lost before you typed your first letter of your 1st word. No one here is interested in providing therapy to help you with your sexual issues. This is not a group therapy session, this video deal with computer tech things. COHERENCE learn it. move on.

you need to get a life. chris already has a gf ya dumb tard. if you had watched the past 4 videos you would have already known that. as for brandon.i dont know..i dont care. that's his business. why are you interested in their sexual life? here's a hint. when you make such dumbass comments you only do one thing beside makes your self sound or look stupid. You illustrate your insecurities. This isn't a group therapy meeting..it is a computer tech coherent video. learn COHERENCE

[2011-09-07 22:36:28] chronofusion - nope. because ...

nope. because speed of data transfer is measured in BITS..not bytes. your internet connection from your isp is measured in BITS. example in ms 6mbps 8 mbps 16 mbps ( until docsis 3.0 is available if it already is not) you divide the amount by 8 to get the MAXIMUM bytes of data you can move in a given second theoretically. powerboost helps alittle. it's a strange game..yes i agree.
