He may mean: soul 1. the spirit or immaterial part of man, the seat of human personality, intellect, will, and emotions, regarded as an entity that survives the body after death 3. the essential part or fundamental nature of anything 4. a person's feelings or moral nature as distinct from other faculties As opposed to (from the same dictionary entry): 2. Christianity the spiritual part of a person, capable of redemption from the power of sin through divine grace It's all conjecture anyway

Pff Japanesse have their own heaven too but it is called different and it is not exactly equal to the heaven described in the holy bible. They have also their own hell and not one but many many hells...we have just 1. So what's wrong if he believes in the bible? Are you gonna be butthurted by that?

It is not a valid question until it is a valid possibility. Science fiction may not have any borders, however science has many. It is easy to think up possible logic puzzles, it is impossible to solve them today.

[2012-05-12 21:40:01] UrSoMeanBoss - very true, but the ...

very true, but the point i was trying to make is that if your brain was separated into its most basic elements and then re-assembled into the exact same way it was before, would it be you? xD basicially..

[2012-05-12 21:18:11] CarpeMetus - That's fine, it's ...

That's fine, it's still not the same as the teleportation in star trek, or as talked about in this video is all I was getting at. Those destroy the matter turn it into data and then recreate the form at another location using tons of power. The in Stargate the raw material is still there in some form it's not 100% destroyed. You are right though looking back it does say that it de-materilizes, it's just doesn't destroy the particles as does other teleportation systems.

[2012-05-12 21:12:41] UrSoMeanBoss - actually they said ...

actually they said it de-materializes matter into its base form (individual molecules) and sends it through a wormhole that travels through subspace to the 2nd point in normal space where it is re-materialized into the correct location by use of the initial imprint of stored in the gate's buffer. So it basically rips you apart into your base elements and then puts you back together on the other end. (i hope this doesnt turn into an argument based on science-fiction-stargate-physics 101...)

[2012-05-12 16:07:49] CarpeMetus - In stargate the ...

In stargate the stargate didn't destroy them, it was a wormhole connecting 2 points. Matter in, matter out no destruction of matter. They could even track the progress of the travelers. They could also see and feel the ride as shown sometimes when they showed the actual travel through the worm hole. Now the teleportation rings and asgard beam transport those are different stories.

I was thinking the same thing when i started watching stargate SG1 again. if i stepped through the gate, on the other end- would it be me? is consciousness real? is consciousness just an illusion by mechanical consciousness? -ahhh drives me nuts..

[2012-05-10 05:32:15] twistedream13 - Ok, Its been ...

Ok, Its been percolating a few days now. I think MPT could still solve this problem. Heres why: In short, its attempting to exist in two places at once, an overlap of position across space. If instantaneous communication in the future is possible, one could slowly let their consciousness transmit as well. Like slowly entering a pool. Which is not to say I dont think this is solvable if you blink out for a sec and blink back in would work. the "overlap of existence" is the key.

wait so, if you die and get copied, then wouldn't you not survive being teleproted meaning, that you would die and not live to see the other side?

[2012-05-06 00:48:33] varer - I have thought ...

I have thought about this same question independently and I concluded, that my conciousness will be disconnected when i am destroyed and another conciousness will be deployed -- that is still me, but I will be left non existant. Think about it. Therefor i would not teleport myself using this method, because i would not want to disconnect. Better use wormholes!!

[2012-05-03 22:16:18] guyman2111 - I would say it's ...

I would say it's more like the actual force that is life is a soul. Like an immediately deceased person still has all the same organs and cells. The two have the same mass. I think everything that's alive has a "soul," but not in a religious sense, more in a living or non-living sense. Even single celled organisms are alive in the same capacity we are, just on a much smaller scale. And that doesn't mean they can think; they don't have brains to think with. That's what I think anyway.

[2012-05-03 19:50:54] Hvatum93 - Hey look buddy, I'm ...

Hey look buddy, I'm a physicist. That means I solve problems. Not problems like 'what is a soul?' Because that would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy.

[2012-05-03 16:16:48] tulp35000 - What you said gave ...

What you said gave me an idea, so basically, we are but an empty shells and the SOUL are things that are around us,give us life, energy to live... take Sun for example, if it didn't exist, we wouldn't, does that mean that Sun holds everyones souls inside it who live on earth and our solar system? Only makes sense since without it, we wouldn't exist :D

[2012-05-03 16:08:32] tulp35000 - Hence, that is ...

Hence, that is where come clones, where arnold schwarzenegger starred in. Or, like the fantasy movies suggest, you teleport yourself in whole being, nothing is left behind. But there hsould be some kind of proof, which is hard to think of right now.

[2012-05-03 16:07:13] tulp35000 - There was a movie , ...

There was a movie , illusionist, where tesla gave him teleportation device that teleported him to the other place, BUT leaving the original at the same spot, and he warned that the original can be either teleported one or not, so he had to kill himself, and he cant know for sure if he is who he is or is just a copy of his former self. This is a nightmare if u can copy your brain onto a hdd but it wouldnt be you, only a copy of you, the... thing that makes you, your own conciousness, cant b copyd
