I rented an old VAX terminal that smelled like cigarettes from my college comp sci dept to use Telnet, Gopher, etc. Later bought a 486 laptop, 28.8 modem, and installed MS Kermit immediately. It was a whole new world for us. Yeah, we broke up a few years later, and I became a web developer, go fig.. :\
