Microsoft is definitely in the 'do both' segment. just thought you should know, apple succeds because its a brand and people rather buys overpriced low performing easy products than good stuff because of the brand. and microsoft is still MUCH bigger than apple(considering 80% of the world uses microsoft OS and products compared to 15% apple :P) as soon as the apple bubble burst the stocks are gonna plummet and the company will have to change. nice and sweaty :p ^Hasn't used Windows 8 yet. Developers are the most valuable people to any OS on the planet, and the lack of "Developers" for the 1st Mac was the main recession reason for Apple, no wonder that XCode from Apple is free of charge today, beside, people tend to love clowns, don't you ? What is the markup on any of the items you mentioned? They are a software company so they take 50-100 bucks profit on every item you mentioned while mostly catering to businesses. There are far more people than businesses and far more mark up for quality innovative consumer electronics(300-500 dollar markup w/ 2 year contract upgrade cycles). Thats why Microsoft is stagnate and Apple succeeds. And every one of those products is a reaction to a competitor rather than real innovation.
